  20. Some requirements on extensions to X.500 are described in RFC 1275, in
  21. order to build an Internet Directory using X.500(1988).  This document
  22. specifies a set of solutions to the problems raised.  These solutions
  23. are based on some work done for the QUIPU implementation, and
  24. demonstrated to be effective in a number of directory pilots.  By
  25. documenting a de facto standard, rapid progress can be made towards a
  26. full-scale pilot.  These procedures are an INTERIM approach.  There
  27. are known deficiencies, both in terms of manageability and
  28. scalability.  Transition to standard approaches are planned when
  29. appropriate standards are available.  This RFC will be obsoleted at
  30. this point.

  32. This RFC specifies a Proposed Standard Protocol for the Internet
  33. community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements.
  34. Please refer to the current edition of the "IAB Official Protocol
  35. Standards" for the standardization state and status of this protocol.
